A Powerful Model

DIRFloortime®, developed by Stanley Greenspan, MD and Serena Wieder, PhD, is a framework used to help children with developmental differences.

The program emphasizes 1) following the child’s lead and 2) joining the child’s world and pulling them into a shared world in order to help them master their capabilities.

D-Developmental: treatment aims to respect and guide each individual’s personal developmental journey.

I-Individual Differences: each person has unique ways we take in, regulate, respond to, and comprehend the world.

R-Relationship: the interactions we have through our primary relationships are critical to brain development, so parents and families are central to this model.

SPACE DIRFloortime®

The founders of SPACE were mentored by Dr. Serena Wieder, Ph.D. for over seven years and have used their combined experience of 38 years to train their SPACE staff and implement DIRFlootime® in its truest form.

  • Always including families
  • Spontaneous interactions/open play concepts
  • Meeting the child where they are
  • “Go for the gleam” every session
  • Striving for progress every single encounter!

DIRFloortime® is NOT following a child around and imitating everything they do.

DIRFloortime® is NOT letting a child always have their way.

DIRFloortime® is NOT only done on the floor.

DIRFloortime® is NOT always play.
