Important announcement from SPACE Therapy & Gym

With school being out for an extended period of time, children will need more structure and organized activities now more than ever. Supporting our community with quality speech therapy, occupational therapy, DIR/Floortime and ABA services remains a top priority at SPACE Therapy & Gym. 

In lieu of recent developments regarding the coronavirus, SPACE will plan to keep all ST and OT scheduled appointments via telepractice. SPACE will plan to provide in-home ABA sessions provided by behavior technicians and supported by Amy Dillree, BCBA, PhD.  

Beginning on Wednesday, March 18th, all sessions will be provided via telepractice or in-home until further notice. Telepractice sessions will be provided through a HIPAA secure forum using ZOOM in order to provide continuity of care during this health and safety concern. Telepractice sessions will be provided during your regularly scheduled times. 

Because of the closing of the main office, our phone and contact times have been reduced to 9am-1pm M-F. Please leave a message if you need to call outside of these hours and we will return your call as soon as possible.

We understand that this is a big change for everyone but we want to ensure that your child is not experiencing a lapse in therapy services during this time. We are doing our very best to adhere to the recent guidelines recommended by the CDC and local government officials by implementing social distancing and reducing exposures to crowded environments.  

Our telepractice options will provide a new exciting opportunity for us to:

1. Provide services in the safety and comfort of your home
2. Provide home program ideas using your toys and equipment
3. Increase opportunities for generalization in different environments
4. Increase caregiver training to promote carryover with therapeutic strategies in the home
5. Provide some stability of schedule while your child is home from school
6. Provide guidance and assistance with on-line school assignments/learning curriculum 

Please note that our cancellation and rescheduling policies will remain in effect during this time. If any interruption to therapy services becomes necessary, we will make our families aware. If you need to reschedule the session, you will work directly with Vanessa Rivera and your treating clinician. We feel confident that we can support our telepractice team through our years of experience doing so at Texas Children’s Hospital!  

Treating clinicians will be contacting you to confirm your schedule as well as to provide links to join the virtual therapy sessions beginning Wednesday, March 18th. We will do our best to keep your current schedule unless you request another time/day by contacting Vanessa Rivera and your treating clinician.   

Please be on the lookout for an email with logistics and how to access therapy from your laptop, phone or other device! Our team will work with your family to make telepractice a successful option during this time of uncertainty and we look forward to seeing you and your family soon!
